Two separate areas of Gambrill State Park provide recreational facilities and activities for visitors of all ages. The Rock Run area is located at the park entrance, and offers camping. The High Knob area is located at the top of Catoctin Mountain, and offers scenic views from three native stone overlooks, as well as picnic pavilion rentals. About 16 miles of wood trails offer hiking of various challenges.
drivingDirection Located in Frederick County, the park is 51 miles northwest of Washington, DC, 53 miles west of Baltimore and 6 miles northwest of Frederick, on Catoctin Mountain. A one-mile road from US Rt. 40 leads to the park.

importantInformation ALCOHOL POLICY: The consumption or possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage will be prohibited in all state park areas with the exception of interior areas of full-service cabins and motorhomes. Permits may be issued upon request by the Park Manager for special events operating under a use agreement. Alcohol Permits will only be issued through a reservation for a designated shelter, or other approved facility. A $35 fee will be charged for each alcohol permit and must be obtained 1-day out prior to arrival.
